Edinburgh CorridorEdinburgh Location

At Edinburgh in the City of Salisbury, a Mallee Box (Eucalyptus porosa) woodland is being re-established in an effort to provide a link between areas of Salisbury and Bolivar near the coast.  A linear engineered drain (1km x 70m) and an adjacent paddock (500m x 70m) are being transformed into a corridor linking existing roadside vegetation throughout the Edinburgh Parks area, improving habitat in a region where a high proportion of vegetation has been cleared.

Prior to revegetation the site was almost entirely cleared of native vegetation with the exception of small areas of regenerated native grasses and several mature River Red Gums.

Revegetation has focused on establishing a wide range of tree, shrub and groundcover species to improve structure and diversity throughout the site. Infestations of weeds such as salvation jane, wild oats and sour sobs are being controlled, and the dense planting of chenopod groundcovers aims to reduce weed cover across the site.

More than 40,000 seedlings have been planted at this site, with the project set to continue past 2008.
